For two straight years, the WAHOO Champions League (WCL) has cemented its reputation as one of the region’s premier international water polo events, a true pinnacle of excellence in the sport. Hosted by WAHOO, the tournament has become a stage where top talent from across Asia converges, competes, and continually raises the bar.
2024: A Milestone for Regional Competition
The 2024 edition brought together 26 teams from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, China, and Malaysia. More than 300 athletes competed across five divisions: Under-11, Under-13, Under-23, Open Men, and Open Women, reflecting the fast-growing depth of water polo across the region.
WAHOO’s home team delivered a commanding performance, securing the championship with 22 points. Thailand’s PSAC and the Philippines squad rounded out the podium, underscoring the rising competitiveness of Southeast Asia’s water polo landscape.
2025: Bigger, Broader, and Bolder
Riding on this momentum, the 2025 WCL was held alongside the ASEAN Great Summit: The SPICE Aquatic Cup, a headline event of the Great ASEAN Sports Summit. That year with the introduction of two new categories, the Under-30 and Masters divisions, broadened the event’s reach while welcoming a wider age spectrum of athletes.
A total of 28 teams from Singapore, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Malaysia took part, with more than 400 athletes contributing to a vibrant, high-energy aquatic showcase.
Once again, WAHOO rose above the competition, securing victory with 14 points, followed by Thailand’s PSAC with 11 points and AquaKids with 8 points. The back-to-back triumph marked another proud milestone for the host club.
More Than Just a Tournament
What began as a competition has since evolved into a full-fledged aquatic festival, drawing athletes, families, officials, and supporters from across Southeast Asia and beyond. Its growing popularity is powered by the dedication of the WAHOO team, exceptional event coverage by WOW Broadcast, and the unwavering support of valued sponsors.
What’s Next?: WCL 2026
Looking ahead to 2026, the tournament is expected to welcome teams from Japan, the United States, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia.
With eyes set on a historic three-peat, the WAHOO team is gearing up once again, continuing its mission to elevate the standard of water polo and inspire a new generation of athletes throughout the region.
